What is Ceibal
Ceibal is Uruguay’s digital technology center for education innovation at the service of public education policies. It promotes the integration of technology to improve learning and foster processes of innovation, inclusion and personal growth.
Uruguay, a country that stands out for its significant schooling rates, now faces the challenge of retaining Secondary School students from poorer social backgrounds. The public education system covers 83% of students between 4 and 15 years of age. The incorporation of digital technologies is strategic for transforming the pedagogical approach.
Thanks to the installation of fiber optics throughout the country, Uruguay is a leader in fixed Internet connection speed. Plan Ceibal contributed to reduce the computer access gap between the highest and lowest income quintiles, establishing an equity scenario that has remained stable since 2010.
